At a time where traditional newborn photo sessions are problematic because of COVID, if not down right impossible, I am reminded of this baby photo session with the adorable Martha. It is, without a doubt, one of my favourite photo galleries. (Disclaimer: I have quite a few favourites! How can I play favourites with their sweet baby faces?!)
Martha was about 3 months old when we held this in-home newborn session. I actually had the pleasure I first photographing her when she was only a day or so old, which also showcased that amazing stare of hers. But, for anyone feeling all the feelings about not being able to have a newborn photography shoot with your brand new little one, there is time.
At around 12 weeks old, this adorable baby girl still snuggled up into Mum and Dad and she still slept. She still fed and she still cried and we took some lovely photos of it all. The added advantage of this slightly older newborn photography session – we captured some gorgeous grins! Martha’s eye contact was incredible and her personality showed through with stares and scowls, which I will take Every Single Time over a photo of a baby sleeping. (Okay, photos aren’t rationed and I do give my lovely clients both. It’s just, documenting what makes each baby their own unique little person is where my heart is.)
During newborn photo sessions with older babies, I get to witness little family units who were developing their own routines and habits. They were more relaxed and havw started to get their head around sleep signals. hungry cues and what makes their much loved little one smile.
It’s wonderful to capture a sweet little baby. It’s even more wonderful to document an incredible, new, little person.
